College of Engineering Science & Technology which is traditional characteristics school at Shanghai Ocean University originally grew out of Section of Fishery Machinery when the University was founded in 1912.

It is one of the larger-scale and high-strength colleges. The team of the College is strong, young and erudite. The College now has 52 faculty members, including 14 teachers with high title and 12 master tutors. In addition, there are 31 teachers with Doctor's and Master's Degrees. The College is composed of College Office, Student Affairs Office, Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Comprehensive Experiment Center, etc. Within Department of Mechanical Engineering, there are three Teaching and Research Sections, including Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Fundamentals of Engineering, and Marine Engine Engineering. In addition, Teaching and Research Section of Industrial Engineering is in Department of Industrial Engineering, and Section of Electrical Automation in Department of Electrical Engineering. The College offers three undergraduate programs, including Mechanical Design-Manufacture and Automation, Industrial Engineering, Electric Engineering and Automation, and one Specialty of Marine Engine Engineering. Two disciplines of Mechanical Design and Theory, Mechanical Engineering are granted to offer Degrees of Master and Master of Engineering, respectively. Besides, it also has the College Students Activities Centre of Technology, Research Center of Mechanical, electrical, and Ocean Engineering.

 The college of engineering science & technology has the strong scientific research strength and the wide research area, as well as the good scientific research foundation. The main research direction involve the modern technique of manufacture, physical distribution equipment and technology, modern agriculture and fishery equipment and correlation control technology, integration technology between mechanical and electrical, CAD/CAE/CAM/PDM, electronic and electrical engineering technology and so on. Above research direction depends on the superiority discipline and key discipline such as life, sea, food, fishery economy, fishery management and so on. Not only plays the important support roles to characteristic life sciences and technical institute, sea institute, food institute, but also the development of the college of engineering science & technology with the aid of our university correlation institute's existing resources, realizes resources supplementary and sharing. Owing to the discipline development to support mutually, communal development, through the interdisciplinary union establishing undergraduate course specialty, causes to appear the new specialty or the research direction.

The mechanical engineering discipline is mainly engaged in the mechanical engineering and the automation, machine design and theory research. The primary mission is tradition mechanical engineering equipment being automated, and applies the food processing machinery, the environmental protection processing system and innovation. The mechanical engineering and automated discipline is mainly to automatic control, numerical control, mechanical engineering equipment automation, intellectualization research. The machine design and theory discipline is mainly to carry on the function synthesis and the quota description to the machinery; and to control its performance. Its primary mission is that the machine manufacture system can accept and inputs the machine manufacture information.

According to the development of our university, the college locates in raising basic theory solid, knowledge breadth, practice ability, face project reality, grasping integration of machinery and machine manufacture and automated theory and technical application as well as high-level project technology talented person. According to the graduate employed unit's track questionnaire survey, units to the graduate in unit's professional dedication, the rational and the specialized knowledge, practice ability, the innovation spirit, the organization coordination and the managed capacity, team cooperation consciousness, the synthesis quality and ability, whether competent own work all to hold the affirmation manner, the satisfaction rate basically all above 95%, These graduates conscientious on operating post, depth attains the high praise.
